Support the printing of my first book, LEAVES

In November 2025, I’m planning to publish my first book, titled LEAVES.

The book will show a selection of works from 2020-2025, together with images and information of the processes behind them. The book will contain sketches and notes I made during fieldwork, detail images of the materials I work with, and an essay about some of the thinking behind my work.

I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to make, grow and exhibit this body of work over the past years. To everyone who has been following and supporting my practice – thank you! If you are new to my work, scroll all the way down to read about it.

I can’t wait to hold this book in my hands, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with all of you. It’s turning out beautifully, but I don’t want to give away too much just yet. It will have a green linen hardcover, and I hope the inside will invite you to return to it again and again to discover the little details. It will be 24 x 20 cm and 228 pages thick. The book will cost €55 once it’s available.

With the kind support of Mondriaan Fonds and Stichting Niemeijer, I’ve been able to get to the point where the book is almost ready. My friend (and graphic designer) Sam Reith and I have been working and puzzling over the content and design for more than a year now.

All that’s left to do, is to finish the final details — and to raise the remaining minimum of €5,500 needed to actually produce the book. If we manage to raise this amount, or more, we’ll also be able to offer it at a price that feels right.

My name is Milah van Zuilen. I’m a visual artist and a forest ecologist in training. In my work, I use fieldwork as a method to merge my two disciplines of art and ecology.
